26 Society choruses and two affiliate choruses will compete in the 2010 International Chorus Competition in Philly. Order of Appearance:
UPDATE (4/1/2010): The Mighty River Harmony Chorus from NZABS has recently informed us they are not able to compete in Philly and has been removed from the order of appearance. The New Tradition Chorus has made a late request to sing first due to the hiring of a brand new director and the request has been granted. Since Mountaintown Singers and the Downeasters had already requested to sing first and there was a separate draw for that, the New Tradition Chorus will sing third. Below is the revised OOA. Congratulations to each one of you!

Congratulations to all of the qualifying choruses! And may I say how proud I am to see M-AD sending FIVE choruses to Philadelphia, including the international debut of our very own Voices of Gotham as the mic testers! Best of luck to everyone — I can’t wait to see you all there!
Unbelievable lineup! Unfortunately, my chorus was just short to get in this year, but we’re aiming for Kansas City next year!
Looking foreward to sing with you in July . Les
Surprised and disappointed to learn that Sweden’s “zero 8″ and New Zealand’s “Vocal FX” choruses will not be competing at International this year. Also wondering why Land of Lakes’ District Champion – Great Northern Union – is not list among 26 Society choruses competing.
The GNU newsletter says that they are passing up Philadelphia in order to focus on Kansas City in 2011. They have a plan to improve, in hopes of winning it all. I met some of these guys in Anaheim and they seem to be a great bunch of guys. About all we can do is wish them luck and tell them we’ll miss them.
As for Vocal FX, we have found that the fundraising effort to get a chorus of 40+ young guys from New Zealand to the US takes longer than one year! But if we get the opportunity to represent NZABS following our national convention in Hamilton next year, we’re hoping to make Kansas City in 2011!
Vocal Evolution (AAMBS) made the decision last night to go to Kansas! Now there’s just a few $ to raise. Lots of our guys are young – we’ve got he same prob as VocalFX – any tips on raising the odd $k? Qantas already has a bunch of singers…
There was talk initially for the guys from FSYC (AAMBS) to audition to be part of VE for the Kansas City in 2011 as both are in the same region of AAMBS. Not sure if that is still a possibility but I am certainly hoping so!
If not, I may just make the trek anyway to support the guys… we’ll see
Yes, we are indeed sitting out of 2010 contest. I sing with the GNU and we are involved in so many different things besides the international contest. It will be great to grace the stage in 2011 in Kansas City!!!!!!!!!!!
This is going to be one of the best contests!
I just want to give a shout out to Fremont, Nebraska and the Pathfinders in the Central States District for finally making it to International competition. Well earned! Good luck to you guys, I’m rooting for you and Heart of America Chorus too.
Rooting for The Alliance to finally medal, though if it doesn’t happen this year, it could easily happen next, esp. if the VM wins. The Masters of Harmony are back next year, and recall that they are Westminster’s parent chapter, and as such they formed an agreement not to compete against each other, so if Westminster went on to next year’s contest, either they or the Masters would sit out one out of courtesy to the other.
Dave
The Alliance has medaled within the last few years. (But I’d love to see them medal again.)
Would love to see everything but can’t afford $129.00 per night for 7 days?? Who can??????
buy the webcast
Hi Mike-There are lower priced hotel options and sharing a room with another person(or two or three!) can also bring the hotel cost down. We also lowered the cost of registration from 2009 so you’ll save a little money there as well. And if all else fails, like Tom says above, buy the webcast. Whether you view it live or on the web, you’ll sure enjoy it!
Find some friends to share a room. My first International (1986, I believe) we had at LEAST 10 in our room in Salt Lake City. (While I’m sure it’s not recommended by the hotels, or the Society.) A hotel room’s just a place to crash after days filled with Barbershop OVERLOAD!
Anyone know how this will break down in sessions? Who is in 1st session, etc?
Just want to send a shout out to my guys in Circle City Sound, especially my hubby Bob! I can’t wait to see you guys go out there and take Philly by storm!
The Downeasters, Maine’s oldest barbershop chorus, qualified for Internationals for the first time in our 61-year history! We are PUMPED and excited to see you all in Philly!
….Now you know how the Toronto Maple Leafs would have felt if THEY had…oh well!!!
Hi. guys!
This year’s contest in Philly is a bit of ironic history. It will be a fond farewell to Jim Clancy – and a great hand off to Jeff Oxley, who will no doubt be a major contributor to VM’s continued dominance in BS competitions in years to come. Just a footnote to VM’s historical run: You got the only sympathy win over Westminster you will every get – which clearly outperformed you in the 2006 competition. Westminster has proven their versatility and yes, dominance – in the a capella competition in Wales last year. Their win in 2007 came despite an unwarranted mark down for their thrilling martial arts segment. There’s no way of knowing what Westminster will come up with this year, but you can be sure that it will be among the very best in terms of musical quality and performance, and in the final analysis – will be a tribute to Clancy – for his historic contribution in years past. It is notable that Philadelphia played such an important role in America’s political history – and now has a similar role to play in BS!
I would have loved to see the VM and Westminster singing MUCH closer together…considering they’re the two top contenders this year, would have been a great “sing-off” between em!
As far as a “sympathy” win in 2006, I have to shake my head at that. VM as far as choreo was definitely outperformed. However, Westminsters size will prevent them from having the sheer vocal power of the VM. Throw 15-20 more guys on the risers, then perhaps vocally they can take down the VM.
In regards to Wales….that had to be one of the greatest performances of Eric Whitacre’s Lux Aurumque. I almost liked in more than the mixed version. However, take a listen to the other groups that competed…not a very competitive field.
Really sad to see that Zero8 and VocalFX couldn’t make it. The sound those guys are bringing to the table is like nothing else here in the US and IMHO is the future of barbershop.
Downeasters, from Maine. So pleased and proud to be representing NED. Competition chorus grew from 27 to 42 on stage in Philly. The best we’ve ever been and still growing.
The best of luck to all those competing in Philly! I’ll be attending my first Int’l with my barbershop brothers from The Pathfinder Chorus in CSD, the first chorus to ever qualify for Int’l from the state of Nebraska.
Best of luck to The Cottontown Chorus from Bolton, England. Sorry I can’t be there with my friends who are hopefully about to make history with a highest ever placing for a BABS chorus! Sounding awesome guys! Take that onto the stage in Philly and it will happen!
Good luck to the the Vocal Agenda, and the Northern lights chorus!
I want to wish good luck to the guys in the Chorus of the Chesapeake.
I am really gutted that I cannot be there to sing with you, but I shall be there in spirit. Keep my riser place warm for me, I shall be back on the risers for District in October so we an qualify for Kansas City next year
Go get ‘em Sound of Illinois! GREG G
Best of luck to the SenateAires…following the Vocal Majority…please folks stick around and support to this small but mighty chorus.
Sending out my loudest good luck cheer to all the boys in The Big Orange!
This is the time……
SING YOUR HEARTS OUT!!!!!
Best of everything to Jim Clancy on his last International stage appearance. Regardless of the outcome, he has a record that may never be equaled by another director. He is the undisputed king of chorus competition. Regarding this year’s package – it is formidable, as one might expect from the VM. Too bad they got such a bad draw on performance time. As an earlier poster said, it would have been fun to watch them back to back with the kids from CA.
Best of luck to everyone competing in Philadelphia, especially Big Apple Chorus!
Go Bolton boys ( Cottontown) Love from Lace City Chorus SAI region 31 2010 Champion chorus.
Heartbeat UK (SAI Region 31 2010 Bronze Chorus & European Bronze Chorus) wish all chorus’s competing in Philladelphia the very best of luck.
Many of us will be watching the webcast and will be whooping and cheering over the pond in the UK, for our boys from Bolton, ‘Cotton Town Chorus’ (BABS) under the direction of Neil Firth and choreography by our very own Sandra Lea-Riley, in Heartbeat and BASS in Eu4IA.
We will be listening out for our posse of ‘noisy Brits’, also whooping at the convention Centre!
GO COTTON TOWN BOYS!! ,, we are so proud of you!! x
Superb, Salem Senate-aires! Great performance. The chorus did the EVG District proud. Can’t wait to see it again on the DVD.
We are proud of you all. Go Go Go to the The Vocal Agenda and Toronto Northern Lights. From all of us a A Cappella Niagara. ray
Congratulations to the Westminster Chorus!! Superb performance!!
